Small plates, big flavours / by Emma Paling McGough

Lamb shoulder, purple haze carrots, lebnah, pickled grapes, almond and mint

Gutsy Girl and Co have pulled it out of the bag again. Amy Jowers and her team are serving up Saturday afternoon small plates at The Ship Inn, Eston. Prices vary from £4 to £9.50 and with plenty of choice, all served up with GG&C’s passion and generous portion sizes, it’s proving a success with the locals and out of towners alike.

On today’s menu there was, as always, a selection of locally sourced produce turned into stunningly beautiful dishes that do that provenance justice.

Amy’s inspired menu choices continue to leave diners wanting more with the pop up restaurant always selling out, usually before the end of service. And it’s no wonder, the amount of effort and pride Amy puts into each dish is a delight to watch. As plates come back empty, in fact practically wiped clean, she asks ‘did they enjoy it?’.

Seemingly never one to rest on her laurels, Amy tells me that there are more events to come. As always, I eagerly watch this space and hope that I continue to be the photographer of choice to grab those photographs as the plates fly out of the kitchen doors to hungry, happy diners.
